This is me: Jasmine Alexa Gescheit
A little less serious
Name: Jasmine Alexa Gescheit
Age: 31
Where are you right now- tell us what you can see? Sitting in the sunny spot on the couch at my boyfriend’s house and feeling a bit nervous about answering these questions. (Go figure because I wrote this Q & A)
What did you have for breakfast? Avocado on toast and a long black.
What are you usually doing at 11pm? Sleeping or trying to…
What is something most people don’t know about you? I am obsessed with prisons…don’t ask.
A little more serious
Tell us a bit about your story. What defines you? I am defined by my drive to want a better present and future. I do not want to be defined by my past, not that is saddens me anymore, but because I know I am a different person now. I struggled with low self esteem which subsequently transitioned into anorexia and depression for most of my teenage years. I turned myself into an empty shell wishing to be swallowed up by the world. I showed myself no compassion or self love, a very dark place for someone to be… almost trapped inside my own prison. The strength it took me to love myself again and to have some compassion, proved to me that there was hope, and I vouched to myself that I would one day try to help others who might be going through something similar. Today, after a long and slow recovery, I am sticking true to my promise and this is the very reason I have started ‘This Is Me.’
What inspires you? I am so inspired by people going out there and living out their dreams. Seeing them battling through the highs and the lows to achieve something they are so passionate about, is contagious! There is nothing more inspiring then that.
What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in your life? Being able to love myself without judgment. It is still something I face, but I am slowly getting to a place where I am happy with who I am.
How did you overcome that challenge?I guess I am still overcoming this challenge, but I understand that this is me, this is my life, and I only have one shot at this, so stop dwelling and start doing! Life is so damn short, and life is so damn amazing!
What has been the biggest lesson you have learnt? Everyone has their struggles!
What would you tell your 15 year old self? You are amazing Jazz! And you will get through this. Stay strong and don’t get caught up in the small stuff. You will never please everyone!
What is your biggest life tip? Show compassion and follow your heart.
What do you think is the biggest issue facing women today? False expectations. We are constantly bombarded with information and images of perfection. Our expectations are pushed higher and higher, to a level that is unobtainable and unrealistic.
What do you think is the biggest opportunity facing women today? The rise of the #GIRLBOSS. There are so many powerful women in the public eye, and I think this gives us the strength to go out their and be powerful ourselves.
What message do you want to share with your community? Stay true to yourselves and look beyond the surface! Don’t mistake the false idea of perfection as a normality- it is not! Focus on your goals and dreams and go out there and SMASH them!
Finish the sentence. This is me … A force to be reckoned with! I survived my own hell so nothing can stop me now!
